I started a podcast. It’s called The Brent Baltzer Show, and the first full episode is out now at brentbaltzer.com.

“I just want to talk to lawyers about how marketing works in the legal field,” I said in the trailer. “Help tie it all together, help explain how it works, and how it can drive long-term growth.”
Episode 1: Google Is Not Your Advisor
When I first became a Google Partner, I was so impressed that I brought a Google representative into a meeting with one of my clients. I figured it would give me some credibility.
It didn’t take long for me to get disillusioned with the advice. Google’s representatives kept telling us to raise the budget, reach more people, and turn on broad match. It was almost always some version of spend more money. They never brought up the searches a firm shouldn’t be paying for, and cutting those is one of the most valuable things you can do in an ad account.
The episode is about why that happens, and how to judge advice from the company selling you the ads.
“Lawyers in particular should recognize this relationship for what it is,” I said in the episode. “It’s the counterparty. It’s the company on the other side of the transaction. And you should evaluate its advice accordingly.”
If you’d rather read than listen, the idea started as a blog post: Google Ads Is Not Your Advisor.
